WHAT IS Juvéderm?

Juvéderm is an injectable gel used to restore fullness to areas of the face to correct age-related volume loss. It is made mostly of hyaluronic acid, a substance naturally found in our bodies.

WHAT IS THE PROCEDURE LIKE?

Juvéderm is injected into the hollow areas of the face, and can also be used to plump lips and cheeks.

First, the plastic surgeon will evaluate your facial structure and skin tone to determine the course of action.  Your cosmetic surgeon may mark strategic points on your face, or take photos for before and after comparisons.

Next, the face is cleansed with antibacterial agents.  Local anesthetics may also be applied or injected.

Once the Juvéderm is injected your surgeon will massage the area and assess the effects or the injection.  Additional injections may be added, until your surgeon has reached the desired results.

Recovery from Juvéderm injections is minimal – your face may feel tender for a day or two, and you may want to apply ice to the injection sites.

HOW LONG DOES IT LAST?

Because Juvéderm is biodegradable, its effects will lessen after time as your body absorbs the material injected.  The effects of Juvéderm last between 6 to 12 months, at which point you may elect to have have a touch-up.
