What are the Benefits of CO2 Laser Skin Resurfacing?
There are many benefits to having a CO2 laser skin resurfacing treatment such as:
- Brighter, glowing, refreshed complexion
- Reduced appearance of sun damage (sun spots, age spots)
- Removal of dull and dead skin cells on the surface
- Regenerated growth and healing in your skin
- Smoothed wrinkles and acne scars
- A younger, refreshed appearance for facial skin
- Boosts collagen production
- Tightens the skin
How Does the CO2 Laser Work to Achieve Skin Resurfacing?
The CO2 laser is an ablative laser, which means it targets the top surface layer of your skin and damages some of the skin tissue, allowing the healthier skin below to be revealed. This technique also stimulates the regenerative processes in the underlying tissues. Since it is a fractional laser, there is less damage and recovery time associated with the treatment. Skin is stimulated without having the damage of a full peel, which may require far longer for recovery.
The laser energy penetrates deep into the epidermis to stimulate collagen production and to tighten the skin. As you heal, this top layer peels away, exposing the healthier, evenly-toned, smoother skin below.
What Should I Expect During Treatment?
During your Inland Empire CO2 laser resurfacing treatment you will be given a topical anesthetic to provide greater comfort during the procedure. The laser will pass over the surface of your skin and will permeate into the deeper layers of the epidermis. The procedure is generally quite fast and does not require much downtime. Your skin should feel tighter directly after the procedure, although the initial redness will take a few days to fade as your skin heals.
What Should I Expect After Treatment?
After treatment there will be redness and potential swelling that can be reduced with cold packs or compresses. The surface layer of your skin will darken and gradually peel away, revealing the healthy skin below. The initial healing should take three to ten days. As the tissues of your face begin to produce more collagen, you will notice a firmer, more supple feel to your skin as well as a rejuvenated appearance.
Though the results will begin to emerge immediately after the procedure with visible skin tightening, the full benefits will become apparent once the skin has healed completely. In addition, new results will continue to emerge for up to a year as regenerated collagen continues to plump the skin.
