IPL Photofacial
TrueCare is proud to offer our patients IPL Photofacial – an innovative procedure that reverses the effects of sun damage, hyperpigmentation and rosacea.
What is IPL Photofacial?
IPL, or Intense Pulsed Light, is a gentle skin rejuvenation procedure that helps patients turn red, blotchy and sun damaged skin into a radiant and smooth complexion. A quick and comfortable 30-minute procedure, IPL uses intense pulses of light to penetrate deep into the skin, causing collagen and blood vessels to constrict, thus reducing redness and age lines.
How does IPL Photofacial work?
The IPL Photofacial works by using high energy light waves to dramatically reduce or eliminate many common signs of aging, including skin discoloration and facial wrinkles. It also encourages the production of collagen, a natural protein that fills in wrinkles and creates smooth and supple skin.
An Overview of the Procedure
Before your IPL Photofacial begins, you will be given eyewear to protect you from the bright flashes of light during the procedure. A cool gel will then be placed on the treatment area and brief pulses of light will be applied to your skin via the IPL handpiece. Depending on the size of the area being treated, the entire procedure can take anywhere from a few minutes to an hour, with most patients requiring between three and five treatments to achieve the best possible outcome.
The recovery period associated with an IPL Photofacial is often quite short, as there is very little damage done to the surface of the skin. Some redness is to be expected immediately after the procedure, though it will subside gradually over time. You will be advised to stay out of the sun for several days and to wear plenty of sunblock for two weeks after treatment to ensure optimal results.
Are you a candidate for IPL Photofacial?
As with all of his cosmetic procedures, we determine IPL Photofacial candidacy on an individual basis, following a thorough discussion of the patient’s cosmetic goals, concerns and desires. With that said, ideal candidates for this treatment are generally individuals with white, untanned skin that has good elasticity. In addition, ideal candidates should possess skin imperfections that IPL can correct, including:
- Enlarged pores
- Fine lines and wrinkles
- Rosacea
- Blotchy skin
- Skin discolorations
- Skin texture irregularities
Conversely, IPL Photofacial is not recommended for patients with severe acne scars or deep facial lines, as these specific issues tend to require a more aggressive procedure. IPL is also not appropriate for patients with tanned or naturally dark skin, as they are likely to experience changes in skin pigmentation after the procedure. And finally, patients who are pregnant or on the medication Accutane are not eligible for this treatment.
