What is microneedling?

Microneedling, also known as Collagen Induction Therapy (CIT), is a gentle, minimally-invasive skin rejuvenation procedure that involves puncturing the skin with very fine needles to create microscopic “wounds.” These “wounds” then encourage your body to revitalize and renew itself naturally by producing new collagen. In this way, microneedling improves the appearance of cosmetic imperfections and minimizes telltale signs of aging.

An Overview of the Microneedling Procedure

To begin the procedure, a topical anesthetic will be applied to ensure your total comfort. From there, we will pierce the skin in the treatment area using a series of microscopic needles, encouraging the body’s natural healing response and stimulating collagen production. Most patients will need a series of 3 to 5 microneedling treatments, at which point firm, lifted and naturally rejuvenated skin will be apparent. After each treatment, you will be advised to avoid sun exposure and retinoids to ensure an optimal outcome.

Are you a candidate for microneedling?

As with all of his cosmetic procedures, Dr. Farzaneh determines microneedling candidacy on an individual basis, following a thorough discussion of the patient’s cosmetic goals, concerns and desires. With that said, because this procedure is gentle and doesn’t cause significant wounding of the skin, anyone who wants to achieve a healthier and more youthful facial appearance without an aggressive procedure is generally considered to be a candidate for microneedling.
